Yury Bunkov is the leading specialist in the area of ultra-low temperatures and magnetism. His group discovered experimentally the magnons Bose-Einstein condensation in antiferromagnetic superfluid 3He-B. This discovery was marked by a prestigious International Fritz London memorial prize, Duke University, USA “For the discovery and understanding of macroscopic phase-coherent spin precession and the flow of spin supercurrent”. This discovery starts a new branch of physics-supermagnonics-a quantum transport of magnetization. The magnon spin supercurrent, Josephson Effect, phase slippage, magnon quantum vortices, Goldstone modes etc. have been observed. Later Yury Bunkov observed the magnons BEC in 3He-A, in antiferromagnetic crystals and in YIG film. Prof. Bunkov is well known for his experiments for simulation of cosmic string formation after a Big Bang by nuclear fusion reaction in superfluid 3He and other experimental simulations of the Universe in superfluid 3He. He also developed the new type of Dark matter detector “ULTIMA” on a basis of superfluid 3He at a temperature of 100 mkK. Yury Bunkov starts his carrier in the Kapitza Institut, Moscow and then work in Institute Neel, Grenoble for 25 years as a director de recherché. He is the laureate of State Prize of Russia (1993) and a member of Academia Europaea (London).

Research Interest

Physical and technical fundamentals of ultra-low temperatures, world record of matter cooling (below 100 mkK), superfluid 3He, coherent transport of magnetization (supermagnonics), magnon superfluid phenomena (Josephson effect, quantum vortex, Goldstone modes) experimental investigations of quantum field analogy between the Universe and superfluid phases of 3He, dark matter detection.
